CuAl10 alloy powder for additive manufacturing

CuAl10 alloy is a high-strength aluminum bronze alloy, featuring excellent corrosion resistance (in seawater / acids and alkalis), low friction coefficient and wear resistance, heat resistance below 400°C, and good processability.

CuAl10 alloy is widely used in marine engineering, mechanical manufacturing, chemical industry, aerospace and other fields, and is often used to make key parts such as propellers, bearings, valves, and engine bushings.

In the field of additive manufacturing, the core advantages of this alloy powder are its good fluidity & spreadability and strong process adaptability and high forming quality. CuAl10 powder is suitable for processes, such as laser cladding, enabling part repair. After repair, the mechanical, corrosion and heat resistance of the component are excellent, and it can precisely meet the harsh working conditions in multiple fields.

CuAl10 alloy powder by PREP process

Plasma rotating electrode atomization (PREP) for CuAl10 powder production involves heating a high-speed rotating CuAl10 ingot with a transfer arc plasma heat source to form a liquid metal film. This film is then broken into tiny droplets by centrifugal force and rapidly solidifies to form the powder.

CuAl10 powder by PREP has low oxygen and nitrogen content (wt%). The oxygen content is ≤ 40 ppm and the nitrogen content is 20 ppm.

D50(μm)86.00
D90(μm)138.8
Degree of sphericity97.76%
Hollow powder ratio0.29%

PREP CuAl alloy powder has a narrow particle size distribution, high sphericality and a low rate of hollow particles.

Microscopic structure of CuAl10 powder cross-section:

The metallographic cross-sectional view of CuAl10 powder particles prepared by PREP method have a very regular circular cross-section. There are no obvious holes inside the particles and almost no hollow powder.

Application fields:

Windstick           Gear bush

The CuAl alloy can meet the diverse needs, ranging from ordinary machinery to high-end equipment. Compared to ordinary copper alloys or steel materials, it offers a longer service life and higher reliability.
